- Learn the skills you need to turn any fiddle tune into a competition-ready performance
- Learn how to take a bare-bones melody (like the thousands you can download for free online) and turn it into an exciting and beautiful audience-pleaser!
- Get a virtual toolbox FULL of “formulas” and “patterns”, ideas, tools, and techniques which you can use and re-use for any fiddle tune to dress it up.

- Baker’s Favorite
- Leona Tuttle, by Larry Unger
- Bit Liza Jane
- Fox Hunter’s Jig
- The Curvy Road to Corinth, by Larry Unger
These tunes are as fun to play as their titles make them sound! Here is a video of me playing one of the tunes I’ll teach you, “Cooley’s Reel.” I played this at a recent fiddle competition.
|Hey Lora…thanks for a great lesson. I love the way you carefully tease out a tune and give us lots of food for thought (and practice!). I am enjoying your lessons thoroughly. I can’t believe the changes and development I am already noticing in my playing by following your exercises, and yes, you are giving me definitely more than I can absorb. I am totally inspired and can’t wait to get to my practice nowadays. It’s so great playing along with you in my lounge room.
I love the chord chart showing on video. It is so fun playing together with you! I am enjoying learning these ornaments. I feel I am getting advanced fiddle player already!
“20 Baker’s Favorite” sounds for me absolutely great and exciting. Sad that it is so far away, but there are other great tunes. I love this
How Does It Work?
It’s very simple to practice your fiddle lessons. You simply log in to our members-only area and watch the videos as often as you like with your fiddle in hand. You and I will work through the exercises together and you can stop and repeat whenever you need to review.
Approximately every week, your membership will automatically upgrade to the next song. But if you want to take two weeks or four or whatever to learn a tune, go ahead! The next lessons will be there for you when you are ready.
The course is “officially” six months long, (meaning you will only be billed for 6 months) but you’ll have access to all of the videos for another 6 months after that, and longer if you need it. That is the beauty of this system–if you have to take a couple weeks off for whatever life throws at you, no problem. Pick up where you left off!
Learn with My Proven Systematic Approach
I don’t just give you the tune and teach you the notes and then say, “good luck!” With every song, you will have my special formula of eight videos. Each video focuses on a specific aspect of the song.
By the time you have practiced the eight videos and understand the concepts, you will not simply play the song. You will understand it and be ready to interpret it and make it your own! That’s what mastery is all about!
You can learn to play a tune by copying what you see others do on YouTube. But to master that tune, you need to know its secrets and uncover its hidden delights. If you want to bake a cake you see in a magazine, imagine how helpful it would be to have the list of ingredients! Imagine how much MORE helpful it would be to have the instructions AND the ingredients!
My 8-video formula is exactly like having the recipe for each tune….and by the time you complete all 24, you will be able to duplicate these steps on ANY tune you want to learn! Here are the eight videos in my formula for each tune that give you the “ingredients and instructions” you need:
- The tune
- Bow patterns
- Left hand technique (or ornaments)
- Scales and arpeggios
- Playing backup
- Beginning and ending
- Change-ups and improv
Get Help Any Time You Need It
Red Desert Fiddle features a “comments” section at the end of every unit, where you can post your thoughts, comments, or questions you may have. I personally read all the comments and answer your questions, so you get plenty of help from “the teacher”. You will also start to recognize the names of some of your fellow students as well, and it’s been nice to watch as familiarity turns into friendships and comradery.
The Extra Stuff
This course includes alot of additional supporting materials to help you practice and learn.
Download MP3′s: FREE when you become a member! You can download MP3′s of me and Larry Unger playing all 24 tunes in the course. You will get each tune in 3 different formats: with fiddle and guitar, fiddle alone, and with guitar alone! This will support you through the entire learning process, from needing to hear the fiddle by itself, then playing along with fiddle and guitar, and finally, the exciting day when you can play all alone with the “Guitar only” track!
Play-Along Videos for Every Tune: Every unit will have play-along videos in 3 different speeds–slow, medium, and fast. This helps you not just in learning the tune, but gives you something to play along with as you learn to play “back-up”, or as you experiment with bowings and ornaments, the play-alongs help to keep you on track. No extra cost!
Red Desert Fiddle Book: I have had a FANTASTIC fiddle book prepared for this course by Virtual Sheet Music. It has amazing features like midi-playback with tempo control, see the music on your screen and follow the guide so you know where you are, print the music out, print fiddle only, or piano only, or both, set the speed you want, even TRANSPOSE to other keys!!! This book is an amazing value at just $10 and I’ll give you the download link as soon as you are a member.
Download and Print Unit Summaries and Practice Assignments: Print these documents to save your valuable time and make the most of your practicing. They give the highlights of each lesson, and have a special “practice assignment” section to help you get right down to business and get results! FREE to members.
Fabulous Fiddle Fundamentals currently costs only $47 per month and runs for six months. Believe me, once you see what is jammed into every unit, you will agree that this is a great value.
You can find out if it’s for you with no risk! I offer a 60-day money-back guarantee. In 60 days, you will have experienced 8 whole units (nearly 30 hours of instruction), and if for any reason you decide it’s not for you, simply cancel your membership within the first 60 days and ask for a refund. So even if you aren’t completely sure yet, sign up! If you don’t absolutely love it, get your money back!
And, although the course is 6 months long, you may cancel at any time. You are in no way locked into a commitment.
But I Have Questions
What happens if I get behind? There is no such thing as “behind”. If you are not finished with the course in 1 year, you and I will come up with a plan to help you finish. All I ask is that you continue to move forward in your progress. I am here to help you!
Am I ready for this course? Is there a prerequisite? Fabulous Fiddle Fundamentals assumes Suzuki Book 1 proficiency. If you do not have the following basic skills, then you might consider taking my beginners Suzuki Violin class, Fabulous Fundamentals. The skills you will need to be successful in this fiddle class are:
- Good posture and form
- Good bow hold and bow control
- Beautiful tone
- Good intonation
- And basic ear training skills. (Can you pick out a tune by ear?)
If you don’t have these, or you don’t know what they mean, then you probably need to take my Beginning Suzuki class first.
I’d really like to take this class, but I don’t think I have time. Yes, it is a time commitment, but chances are, you would spend time wishing you could play fiddle, or watching YouTube fiddlers, dreaming that you could someday be able to do that! If you can find about 30 minutes per day, you can finish this course….and trust me, after you play your first complete fiddle tune…you will find the time….it will be so fun, you might decide to sell your television!
What if I decide to quit? No problem! You are free to cancel at any time if you choose to.
Do you guarantee these lessons? Absolutely! I do not want unsatisfied students! If you are not satisfied with these lessons, you will know it in about a month. That’s why I offer a 60 day money-back guarantee, to give you plenty of time to try it out and think about it. If you decide it’s not worth the money you have paid, simply cancel your membership and request a refund. NO PROBLEM. I fully stand behind my lessons!
